11/28/22    I need to begin this final post with a prolog I'm adding from my sons apartment in Seattle, Wa. He is in Japan and had been planning the trip for many months with the hope Japan would lift some of their Covid travel restrictions and they did. At some point in my trip I offered to come cat sit for him rather than put his cat in a boarding location and he took me up on the idea so I've done a small amount of exploring. The weather has been mostly clear with minimal rain but it has been cold and there is a chance of snow most of this week. The photos I posted from Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 were taken on a day where west of the Pass it was sunny and clear and at the summit and east was socked in and the moisture in the clouds was freezing on the Fir trees. I had hoped to add some mountain photos from here, especially of snow covered Mt. Rainier but the haze and sometimes smoke has stymied my attempts.    Flying in at one point I could see Mt. Rainier, Mt. ...

My last posting had my stay on the mountain by Monticello ending. I did a very short drive to McPhee reservoir and sprang for an electric site for 1 nite. A nice campground but a bit pricey for a Federal site but very popular and it is scenic as well Insert pic of McPhee   Then it was on to Ouray for 4 nites at the Amphitheater campground which is about 700 ft above the town on the side of the canyon the town is nestled in.   The campground is at 8800 ft and the peaks surrounding the town are 10000 ft and up. The town is noted for it’s Hot Springs and is tourist oriented year round. It’s a very small town but it had 3 Breweries that I saw, the Irish Red Ale at Colorado Boy brewery was excellent and for a price worthy lunch of a mighty fine cheeseburger I highly recommend Maggie’s Kitchen. I’d guess it was a ½ lb burger that cooked nicely and was tasty for $9 which in Southwest Colorado’s tourist environment is a good deal. It’s a no frills place and you wait on ...
July 26 th …………I’ve decided to stay here in Utah another 3 days so I’m back in the Library and posting some new photos and videos, mostly from Pioneer Days. Monticello is a small town I believe officially under 2000 but it supports a large area around it. I enjoyed the few classic cars they had in the parade, especially the Corvair. My 1 st car was a 1961 Corvair hardtop and I rebuilt much of the engine on it. I’m also posting a video tour of my Utah campsite as well as an interior tour of my Rpod camper, a.k.a. Apartment on wheels/Tiny House/maintenance nightmare. The inside tour doesn’t look too bad since I did clean up the clutter LOL. If you hear of anyone thinking of buying an Rpod tell them to reconsider and investigate the experience of owners. I’m also including a video from my dash camera it starts shortly after I get to pavement from my campsite and continues down the mountain toward Monticello. It gives you an idea of the elevation of the mountains above the flat farmland...

Monday July 11 th . Hello from Colorado!!!!!!!!   It’s been about a month since I left Santa Fe and you would think I’d keep notes for the Blog but I’ve procrastinated and have nothing to show but random thoughts so here I am putting down my thoughts and experiences.   I’m in my campsite and sitting in my Gazebo at Target Tree campground about 25 miles west of Durango, Colorado. I’m getting a cool breeze and an occasional shower thanks to the Southwest monsoon which has returned today.   I’ll get back to the present in a bit but let me catch up on what I’ve done and seen in the last month.   From Santa Fe I went to an Army Corp of Engineers campground on Lake Abiquiu in northern New Mexico for 9 days.  It’s a nice campground with stunning scenery but it is open and dry and hot and dusty and the wind blows like crazy and it’s in the middle of nowhere! One gas station with a grocery store for 30 miles.   Good prices though $6 a nite no hook...

Greetings from the Road!   I really wanted to post new photos from this trip but they require at least a little bit of background info in order bring them to life. So I decided I would do a Blog of this trip. I’m stubbornly spending money I don’t have and challenging gas prices, a move sure to fail, along with turning 70, a battle I plan to win and saying “damn the torpedo’s, full speed ahead”.   Don’t know how often I’ll get to post since most of my campsites have no internet access. Hopefully I’m sending this from a commercial campground in Santa Fe. I’m going to attach descriptions on my photos, click on the info icon in the top right area of the photo.   I left Tallahassee Thursday May 12 th and spent the night in a Carrel Barrel parking lot in Hattiesburg,MS which they allow RV’s to do. That was my first sample of staying there and I would rather choose a Walmart parking lot due to better security and I ate too much at Cracker Barrel! I got rained on t...
